青山通りから横道に入り、閑静な住宅地が残る北青山に位置するRC造３階建てのビルの最上階を美容室に改修する計画。勾配天井のワンルームがもつ住宅のような雰囲気や年月をかけて変化したコンクリートの物質的な質感を残しながら改修ができないかと考えた。そこで既存の躯体は汚れを綺麗に磨きあげ仕上げとし、新設した壁はモルタルで仕上げることで躯体と等価に扱い、その中に置かれるものが際立つようにした。また機能によって空間を分割するのではなく、住宅にあるような普通の家具によって空間を緩やかに分節した。住宅らしさや美容室らしさという区別をするのではなく、まるで家で髪を切ってもらっているような穏やかな感覚や質感を含みこむ「ありそうでない」空間を目指した。
